Water Resources Board - Sri Lanka

The WRB was established in 1966 by the parliament Act No. 29 of 1964 and presently operating under Ministry of Irrigation, Water Resources Management and Disaster Management

"Adequate access to clean and safe water for all."

        Our aim is to conserve and sustainably utilize water resources of the country by using new technologies and management tools. Hence, the services of the WRB extends to develop the water resources to meet the growing demands of the country in domestic, industrial and agricultural sectors.
        Although, Sri Lanka is not considered as a water scarce country, in particular to groundwater, quantity, quality and availability of groundwater has started to deteriorate due to increasing human activities. This undesirable groundwater deterioration relates to land subsidence and seawater intrusion; coincides with urban development and excessive groundwater extraction. WRB is dedicated to research and training people to address these groundwater issues in the country.
 
 Dr. Senaka de Silva appointed as the Chairman of Water Resources Board
 
 
 Dr. S.H.A  De Silva  has a MBA from Cardiff Metropolitan  University in UK and he has a PhD in Information Technology. 

He rendered his service to the country in Army Intelligent Regiment for more than a decade. Thereafter with the experience and the leadership gained, he ventured to setting up his own business in the field of telecommunication.  Thereafter the company diversified it’s activities by spreading the wings and setting up business in various fields.

In addition he was a Former Senior Advisor to (International Trade Affairs) Ministry of Plantation Industries and  Ministry of Public Estate Management & Development. He was the Head of Civil Affairs Coordinator of Ministry of Regional Development. At present he is a senior member of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources consultant committee.

He was awarded several times for the service he has given for the country as a prominent entrepreneur such as Shrama Abimani honor award.
